Another musical based on a beloved novel this week, specifically Frances Hodgson Burnett's 1911 novel "The Secret Garden". It's a book that has been adapted many times for a variety of media, with several films throughout the history of cinema, and several TV adaptations across multiple continents. The musical, penned by Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman, ran for almost two years on broadway, earning three Tony awards from seven nominations, including for book of a musical and scenic design, and has had two separate runs plus a concert in London; in spite of all this, it still retains a modest status in the history of musical theatre.

There is clearly an audience for it over here, so who knows, perhaps we may see a return of the musical in the coming years.
